Translation Games

These apps are helpful for drawing attention to gaps in learner’s understanding of grammar. Typically these apps display a phrase in your Indigenous language, with multiple English choices for the user to guess the correct “translation“. Ques transform the user into learners by letting them know if they are correct or incorrect.

Other versions of the app provide specific metalanguage feedback that serve two purposes: Helping the learner to recognize gaps in their repertoire and offering supportive feedback that reinforces grammatical input. This takes the mystery out of language and points the learner to recognizable and educational options.

Other options that can be added include increasing levels of difficulty and a feature that repeats questions the learner gets wrong. All the feedback is relevant to the Indigenous language phrase, focuses the learner on grammar “forms” and supports the beginner speaker’s growth.
